My treasure is your great find with this early Mattel number 3 Barbie!This all original vintage #3 Blond Ponytail Barbie with blue eyes and brown eyeliner has been safely stored for more than 60 years. I am the original owner. As a child, I was very careful with my Barbie and she is in excellent vintage condition. She was gently handled and well cared for. Always in a smoke free home. She comes with the original zebra striped bathing suit, black mules and white sunglasses which are missing one arm. Although Barbie is the real find here... she also comes with eleven outfits and the storage trunk box she has rested in for decades. Most of the clothes are in excellent condition but missing a few accessories as you can see in the photos. There are also some rare items like a blue bubble dress and Barbie's tiny vinyl record, titled, "No Thank You."Her face paint, lipstick, delicate cheek blush, nail polish, and toenail polish are all 100% original with no touch ups, rubs, or missing paint! Her soft shiny hair is beautiful with poodle bangs and the original top knot. The original hair band on her pony tail broke while I was photographing her so I replaced it. She has all of her original hair with no missing plugs or cut pieces.She has JAPAN lengthwise on the bottom of her right foot. And an "O" is slightly visible on her other foot where I wrote my initial. She has some discoloration on one foot from the shoe.Her solid body is clean. She has all her fingers and toes. Her neck and torso have faded slightly to a lighter ivory color. The Mattel marking is clear on her tush but she has some discoloration on her right cheek. (See photo)Her left leg doesn't move and I didn't want to force it. But her right leg, arms and head move as they should with tight joints. She has a tiny pin point speck of green behind each earing which is barely visible. (See photo)Barbie's clothing outfits are all original from about 1960 and include the Nighty Negligee, Sweater Girl, Suburban Shopper, Registered Nurse, Resort Set, Picnic Set, Golden Girl, Peachy-Fleece Coat, Plantation Bell, American Airlines Stewardess and Solo in the Spotlight. This early Mattel number 3 Barbie is all original with no touchups!I am the original owner. She was my first Barbie. She is not perfect but still a wonderful example of this beautiful iconic doll. She was gently handled and stored for more than 60 years in a smokefree home. She comes with the original zebra striped bathing suit, black mules and white sunglasses.I have included 7 outfits with accessories and the storage trunk box in which she has been stored. Most of the clothes are in excellent vintage condition but missing a few accessories as you can see in the photos. There are also two original Mattel Barbie dress patterns packages from 1961. The packages are opened but the patterns were never used. Her face is still gorgeous. The paint, luscious red lipstick, blue eyes and delicate brown eye shadow are all 100% original with no touch ups, rubs, or missing paint! The red polish on her fingers and toes shows a little rub off. (See photos.)She has all of her original hair with no missing plugs or cut pieces. She has nice poodle bangs and the original top knot. The original hair band on her ponytail was in fragments when I took her out of the storage case so I replaced it. She has JAPAN on the bottom of her foot in a rectangle. I was told by someone more knowledgeable than I, that indicates an early version of #3. Her overall skin is quite even. The Mattel marking is clear on her tush but she has some discoloration where her legs have been for so many years. She has all her fingers and toes. She has a few almost imperceptible scratches on her legs that don't show in photos. Her head, arms and legs all move well and the joints are tight. She has a some tiny metallic looking specks on her chest and dark ones on her hip and right temple. Her right ear is slightly marred. There is no green visible behind her earrings. They include the Winter Holiday complete with accessories and the leather-like belt, wedge shoes and plaid travel bag; the Wedding Day set with white satin gown and nylon chiffon over skirt and ruffles, the blue garter belt, pearl tiara veil, shoes and gloves; Friday Night Date with tray, drinks and a straw; Barbie Q Outfit with apron, chef's hat and some utensils; Suburban Shopper, Floral Petticoat and Fashion Undergarments with brush and mirror. Vintage 1959-60 Barbie 850 Ponytail Doll #3 in Gay Parisienne #964 Dress

eBay Vintage Mattel 1959-1960 Barbie 850 Ponytail Doll #3 with original hard-to-find 1959 Gay Parisienne #964 dress and rabbit fur stole. Auction also includes a 1961 Barbie white vinyl carrying case, her original zebra swimsuit, miscellaneous accessories, two early booklets, and a small assortment of untagged and/or handmade clothing. Doll has blond hair, blue eyes, brown eyeliner, curved (not pointed) eyebrows, and Barbie TM on backside mark. No holes in bottom of feet. Standard 11 inch Barbie height. Provenance: One owner, received Barbie as a gift in late 1959 or 1960 in Portland Oregon, the carrying case a year or so later. Doll has been stored in case (not displayed or in open) for almost 60 years. This particular Barbie is an international traveler. She has lived in five different countries (United States, Indonesia, England, Singapore and Mozambique), made seven separate ocean crossings (Pacific, Atlantic and Indian), and she’s none the worse for wear. Her claim to fame is that she might be the only Barbie ever to have lived in the Mozambique home owned by South African leader Nelson Mandela and his human rights activist wife Graca Machel (who were not in residence at the time Barbie was there). This Barbie is in very good overall condition, gently played with for a few years when new. Photos show some changes in skin coloration, as to be expected prior to the change in the plastic body in Ponytail Doll #4. The ponytail hair band has mostly come undone, so hair hangs loose. Slight tarnishing in both ear lobes from metal earring posts, one earring post with loop still in place. Doll has original red fingernail and toenail polish. Gay Parisienne #964 outfit includes the dotted blue taffeta dress, white rabbit fur stole with white satin lining, and a pair of blue shoes with holes in the bottom. The outfit does not have the white gloves, hat, gold purse, or faux pearl post earrings. The faux pearl necklace is broken, many of the beads included in small bag. Dress and stole are tagged. YKK zipper in dress. The knit zebra swimsuit is in good condition, with just a few loose threads. Outfit includes the white sunglasses, one ear piece broken off. No black shoes. This doll appears to have come with faux pearl earrings on loops - not gold loops. The earrings are in poor condition, included in small box along with other beads. [Photo taken with red handbag and red shoes.] A 1979 faux fur cape #2667 is also included in this sale, an item from the Barbie Superstar ‘Sleek n Chic’ collection. Unknown provenance, not from this owner’s Barbie. The 1961 “Ponytail” white Barbie vinyl carrying and storage case is in good condition except for some smudges and for two splits in the vinyl on the inside crease edges. Has hook for hangers (no hangers) and a pull-out ‘dresser’ box. Measures 12.25 x 10.25 x 2.5 inches. The “Barbie, Teen Age Fashion Model” booklet has the pink Barbie-only cover, dated MCMLVIII [1958] by Mattel Inc. on the lower left front cover. This booklet does not include depictions of the Gay Parisienne, Roman Holiday, or Easter Parade ensembles, so it is not a 1959 first issue. The “Barbie and Ken” booklet is dated 1962 by Kokusai Boeki Kasha, LTD, on the bottom of the inside front cover. In addition to the two booklets, there’s an undated promotional one-sheet piece for the “new” Midge doll #860, on the reverse side is an advertisement for Barbie’s Dream House #816. Other miscellaneous accessories include a pair of red shoes with holes in bottom, a lone white shoe, a red vinyl purse, and a gold metal purse. Both purses can function as doll accessories, but they don’t appear to be Barbie items. The gold flat-piece metal purse might be a logo tag from a regular handbag. Miscellaneous clothing items are either handmade or presumed to be from other sources. Shipping charges are based on USPS Medium Flat Rate box for mailing within the United States. Photos show some changes in skin coloration, as to be expected prior to the change in the plastic body in Ponytail Doll #4. The ponytail hair band has mostly come undone, so hair hangs loose. Slight tarnishing in both ear lobes from metal earring posts, one earring post with loop still in place. Doll has original red fingernail and toenail polish. Gay Parisienne #964 outfit includes the dotted blue taffeta dress, white rabbit fur stole with white satin lining, and a pair of blue shoes with holes in the bottom. The outfit does not have the white gloves, hat, gold purse, or faux pearl post earrings. The faux pearl necklace is broken, many of the beads included in small bag. Dress and stole are tagged. YKK zipper in dress. The knit zebra swimsuit is in good condition, with just a few loose threads. Outfit includes the white sunglasses, one ear piece broken off. No black shoes. This doll appears to have come with faux pearl earrings on loops - not gold loops. The earrings are in poor condition, included in small box along with other beads. [Photo taken with red handbag and red shoes.] A 1979 faux fur cape #2667 is also included in this sale, an item from the Barbie Superstar ‘Sleek n Chic’ collection. Unknown provenance, not from this owner’s Barbie. The 1961 “Ponytail” white Barbie vinyl carrying and storage case is in good condition except for some smudges and for two splits in the vinyl on the inside crease edges. Has hook for hangers (no hangers) and a pull-out ‘dresser’ box. Measures 12.25 x 10.25 x 2.5 inches. The “Barbie, Teen Age Fashion Model” booklet has the pink Barbie-only cover, dated MCMLVIII [1958] by Mattel Inc. on the lower left front cover. This booklet does not include depictions of the Gay Parisienne, Roman Holiday, or Easter Parade ensembles, so it is not a 1959 first issue. The “Barbie and Ken” booklet is dated 1962 by Kokusai Boeki Kasha, LTD, on the bottom of the inside front cover. In addition to the two booklets, there’s an undated promotional one-sheet piece for the “new” Midge doll #860, on the reverse side is an advertisement for Barbie’s Dream House #816. Other miscellaneous accessories include a pair of red shoes with holes in bottom, a lone white shoe, a red vinyl purse, and a gold metal purse. Both purses can function as doll accessories, but they don’t appear to be Barbie items. The gold flat-piece metal purse might be a logo tag from a regular handbag. She has bubble gum pink lips, blue eyes and although she may need a light cleaning, she still retains her beautiful and fully intact face make-up. Her left arm is a little swingy but will still hold a pose. She has no green ear, missing hair plugs, no nose nips, or neck splits. She's on her correct Barbie R only body. She comes with her complete and near mint outfit and you'll love this one. Just to note one point of interest first, if you view photo #13, you'll see a comparison of her coat lining. The faded example of the coat is not part of the sale, but I wanted you to see just how bright and red her outfit actually is. The original owner must've played with the doll but the outfit must've been properly protected and put away immediately. It was well protected and is the nicest example of this outfit that I've ever come to possess. She also comes with her original and correct box for this doll. I've included pics of every angle of the box, top and bottom, and please enlarge and zoom in on it. There are a few places with writing and plain wear and tear to this very old box but it's the correct one originally issued in Mattel manufacturing for this dressed doll and outfit that came with her. There's also another addition I've never seen before and that's the clear plastic top/cover with an attached sticker, the sticker also including the correct info for the doll belonging to it. It's in beautiful excellent ++ condition and doesn't appear to have been played with before.
