My aunt owned a paint store in 1959 when I was 10 years old. She also sold toys in a special section upstairs and my sister and I looked forward every year to visiting her shop and picking out things we wanted to put on our Christmas list. My birthday is in November, and the year I turned 10, she gave me one of the first Mattel Barbies made in Japan. I thought Barbie wasn’t very pretty, but I loved her clothes. She is long gone, but her outfits are alive and in excellent condition, as I became obsessed with her clothes. I would not let anyone touch my Barbie, and on every Birthday and Christmas until I became a teen, all I asked for were Barbie outfits. She had more clothes than I ever dreamed of having. Now I am 73 years old and have 2 beautiful granddaughters and 7 great nieces who love Barbie too. I would love to leave this cherished collection to my granddaughters or a great nieces, but none of them would ever value these items as I did. They would end up lost, tossed aside or in the trash. So, as much as it breaks my heart to sell these items, I feel selling them can benefit my education in the future. A few pieces were missing, like an earring or glove, but replaced by me. 1959 VINTAGE #2 PONYTAIL BARBIE DOLL *Not Played With” Orig. Hair/ No Green Ear
I wish I could say this doll is new….I honestly don’t think she was ever played with. I bought her along with her mint condition/not played with 1960’s wardrobe & a few other dolls. She had been dressed in the 1961 airline stewardess outfit. I believe that is why she has some subtle blue marks on her lower legs & her back. *She has no green ear at all*I don’t think her hair was ever brushed either. The top pony wrap is perfect and the lower rubber band is still in her hair. I think some hair accidentally came out of the ponytail when I was trying to take the wire hat off her head. I took pics of her feet & buttucks markings with my magnifying app. I still can not see a date on her buttocks, but I believe it is there (just naturally worn down from age). She has no visible cracks on her body. The only issue I see is the discoloration from the blue clothing. I will list her mint condition 1960’s clothing & accessories daily…as I get free time :)Please email me any questions. From my research, I believe she is a #2 blonde ponytail Barbie from 1959. 1960 Vintage #3 Blond Ponytail Barbie, Brown Eyeliner, w/Extras, Original Owner
My treasure is your great find with this early Mattel number 3 Barbie!This all original vintage #3 Blond Ponytail Barbie with blue eyes and brown eyeliner has been safely stored for more than 60 years. I am the original owner. As a child, I was very careful with my Barbie and she is in excellent vintage condition. She was gently handled and well cared for. Always in a smoke free home. She comes with the original zebra striped bathing suit, black mules and white sunglasses which are missing one arm. Although Barbie is the real find here... she also comes with eleven outfits and the storage trunk box she has rested in for decades. Most of the clothes are in excellent condition but missing a few accessories as you can see in the photos. There are also some rare items like a blue bubble dress and Barbie's tiny vinyl record, titled, "No Thank You."Her face paint, lipstick, delicate cheek blush, nail polish, and toenail polish are all 100% original with no touch ups, rubs, or missing paint! Her soft shiny hair is beautiful with poodle bangs and the original top knot. The original hair band on her pony tail broke while I was photographing her so I replaced it. She has all of her original hair with no missing plugs or cut pieces.She has JAPAN lengthwise on the bottom of her right foot. And an "O" is slightly visible on her other foot where I wrote my initial. She has some discoloration on one foot from the shoe.Her solid body is clean. She has all her fingers and toes. Her neck and torso have faded slightly to a lighter ivory color. The Mattel marking is clear on her tush but she has some discoloration on her right cheek. (See photo)Her left leg doesn't move and I didn't want to force it. But her right leg, arms and head move as they should with tight joints. She has a tiny pin point speck of green behind each earing which is barely visible. Offering for your consideration is a wonderful, very large vintage collection of Barbie, Francie and Midge dolls. There is an American Girl, two ponytails (I think a #5 and #6), an early Bubble Cut, Francie and Midge dolls. I'm including 26 vintage Barbie outfits and six vintage Francie doll outfits. A total of 22 of the 32 outfits are complete and there are NO reproductions in this auction!Please note: I purchased this lot in 2013 from two sisters who are lifelong friends of mine. Everything has been played with, however the items have always been very well taken care of and loved. I'll give a complete description below. I know it is very long, but I think when you buy an auction, the more you know the better it is, and I want you to be really happy with your purchase! The American Girl, Francie and Midge don't even have earring holes. All dolls have blonde hair in various shades. There are NO neck splits, missing fingers or toes, and NO nose nips or damage to eyelash ridges. They are very clean, no musty or smoking odors. Each doll will have her correct swimsuit and heels when she arrives.American Girl - very nice condition. Great hair and makeup is still good, lip color is peachy. Body markings are correct. Knees click three times and and hold three times. Nail polish is very good, there is some missing. Does not look like she ever had toe polish. Right leg has a very small space between leg and body. Left leg has two tiny indents on the calf. Please see picture, it is the one with Francie's mark on her thigh.First Ponytail - Original topknot, I can barely see rubber band, it has almost disappeared. She has pretty hair, it is not braided, she does have some flyaways. Lower rubber band missing. I think she is a #5, has Barbie only body. Winning bidder may prefer to have this dolls face paint restored as it is faded or gone completely and paint is missing on one eye. She is the oldest doll in collection also. Nail polish is still good, toe polish is missing on a few of her toes. Right arm is swingy when down, will hold a pose however. Right ankle turns in a tiny bit.Second Ponytail - Original topknot, rubber band on top knot is mostly gone. Great looking bangs, ponytail is braided, some flyaways. No lower rubber band, I added the ribbon. Not sure if braid is factory. I'm pretty sure she is a #6, has Midge - Barbie body. Face paint is pretty, faded on lips and eyebrows. Super tiny dot on chin, this is hard to see. Nail polish is good, I see no toe polish. Right leg is a tad shorter. Right foot has super tiny mark on side of little toe. Nice body.Francie - Excellent doll. Has eyelashes, very pretty face, straight waist. Hair is pretty, long, with a nice curl. Knees click times three, hold times two. Correct markings on bottom. I don't think she ever had nail or toe polish. Tiny blue mark on side of left thigh (please see picture). I can see the beginning of a faint split on the top of her left foot too.Bubble Cut - Excellent condition, Barbie only body. Very pretty hair, her makeup is super nice, her lips are fab! Slightly greasy face. Nail polish is faint, I see no toe polish. Great body, slight swing to right arm when down.Midge - Excellent condition, has Midge - Barbie body. Pretty face paint, hair is curled, few flyaways. Both her nail and toe polish is very good.OutfitsSummary- I've shown the dolls wearing some of the outfits and tried to show all outfits in the pictures. All the zippers work and are YKK. The snaps are present. One side of the snap is coming off the Plantation Belle slip. Most Barbie R tags are present, some are frayed. Note: There is no tag on the Dancing Doll dress, however I'm sure it is vintage. There are NO seam tears, hems coming out, or major stains. Some of the white material in the clothes is a little cream colored. I'll list the complete outfits first, and any issues I'll point out as best I can on all the outfits. If you have questions, please email. If the outfit has open toe heels, they are marked Japan on the left, no splits on any. The outfits with the cork wedgies have them too. Open Road - This was a favorite outfit of the sisters. No toggles on coat. Red chiffon on scarf has several small holes and a very tiny stain on brim. HTF wedgies are in great shape, however there is glue on one of the cork sandals where the strap was repaired. (Please see pictures)12. Peachy Fleecy - In great condition. There is hardly any of the feather left on the hat.13. Plantation Belle - this was a favorite outfit too. There is no jewelry. Slip has frayed ribbon and snap hanging by a thread. Hat has one band that is bent.14. Picnic Set - HTF fish is not cracked, has a couple of minor rubs on each side. Fishing pole has line and sinker. Will display well! The hat is so fun! Cork wedgies are awesome. Favorite outfit!15. Resort Set - Great condition, has the original HTF bracelet. Cork wedgies are very nice.16. Senior Prom - The gown is in Excellent condition. No pearls on shoes. Please see picture17. Sheath with Gold Buttons, RUST color with mini white dots. Super condition.18. Spectator Sport - has VHTF belt! Has gold dimpled purse and I'm including the VHTF striped knit purse and Mustard Color Open Toe heels.19. Suburban Shopper - has original HTF drop pearl necklace. One of the fruits in the purse is split, just a little on top, not the entire piece of fruit. Hat bands are a bit bent. Super classic vintage Barbie outfit.20. Theatre Date - no hat version21. VHTF Vintage Barbie KEN BRANIFF INTERNATIONAL PILOT OUTFIT/UNIFORM Montgomery Ward Exclusive. This is the complete set with the original Blonde Ken Doll and outfit sold in 1967 at Montgomery Ward item No. 48-10497. This is a very rare outfit manufactured by the MARX Toys based on the original design by Emilio Pucci that was sold alongside the four Barbie air stewardess outfits. The Ken doll is the original Ken doll sold with the outfit and has blonde hair. The MARX Braniff Pilot outfit is in AMAZING COLLECTOR CONDITION all original and complete.There are eight gold buttons on the jacket that have the "BI" logo molded into them. The jacket has three additional gold buttons on the cuffs along with braided gold trim at each cuff and pilot wing pin. Jacket has two working snaps, bottom is difficult to snap. The black trousers have the two original working snaps The black tie had an elastic that had disintegrated and I replaced it with a clear new elastic. The white shirt is yellowing and has minor stains and has a single snap like the Ken shirts of the 60s. The black cap is a hard plastic with the BI logo and also has the MARX Toys logo on the inside of the cap. The black dress shoes are a hard plastic with the MARX Toys MADE IN HONG KONG markings on the bottom of each shoe. The black socks are knit and have no flaws. Condition Description:Jacket & Pants - EXCELLENT! all buttons are gold not tarnished the gold braided trim at the cuffs is all intact and no tears, holes stains. Added the pilot pin - not sure if its the same as the original. Shirt - has some yellowing and staining no additional flaws.Hat / Shoes - Hat - missing gold paint, Shoes no flawsSocks - Excellent no flaws.Tie - The black tie is in good condition small fraying along the edges. 1961 Barbie Doll w/ Box. RARE Mattel Brunette Bubble Cut Model #850 +12 Outfits
Vintage 1961 Mattel Barbie Doll Model #850 Brunette Bubble Cut with original box, metal wire stand, earrings, white sunglasses with gold glitter, black/white zebra bathing suit, black shoes (one marked Japan), and pink booklet. All items are original. Barbie, PATS PEND MCMLVIII by Mattel on right buttock. Beautiful turquoise eyes and red lipstick. No green ear. Hair is raven black (brunette) with tight bubble cut, red fingernail and toenail polish. Polish and lipstick in great condition and highly visible. Shows no signs of wear. Please see picture #3. Original shoes have Japan on the bottom of one shoe. Box has blue/white suburban shopper outfit on upper left side and Brunette Bubble Cut #850 label pasted on bottom of box. Box shows gentle wear and bottom right corner is split. Please see picture #2.Original owner of the doll and all of the following outfits and accessories. Doll is in excellent condition. Gently played with and well taken care of.Friday Night Date: #979. 1960 - 1964. Original vintage outfit includes: White pinafore, blue corduroy jumper, black heels, 2 plastic coke tumblers with black Barbie serving tray and drinking straws. Blue jumper has light stains on the back. All felt appliques and snaps on jumper and pinafore are present and work. Black tray, glasses and straws in great condition and show minimal wear. Original vintage outfit includes: Tennis dress, jacket, racket, socks, blue sunglasses, 2 balls, white tennis type shoes and tennis rules book. White tennis dress doesn’t have any holes and zipper works. Some yellowing due to age/storage. Jacket has orange colored ribbing and is lightly soiled on front and back due to gently play. Some very light orange bleeding has occurred on the back of the jacket. Socks, sunglasses, balls, tennis shoes, racket and tennis rules book are in great shape. Bottom of shoes are both marked Japan. No holes in dress and zipper works. Hat ribbon in great condition. Phone cord attached and white shoes (one marked Japan) are in excellent condition. Necklace is intact and features a strand of faux pearls. Handbag closure works and handle with fruit pieces present and intact. Dress has stain on left breast area. Original vintage set includes: Red/White jacket. blue/white sleeveless jersey knit top, white shorts, white sunhat, white strap cork wedge shoes and metal charm bracelet. Original vintage outfit includes: Pink sheer full-length gown and matching sheer robe with pocket. Stuffed felt dog and pink shoes with pompom. Shoes (one marked Japan) have pompoms and in great shape. Gown and robe do not have any holes. Ties and embroidery are present and intact. Please see 8th picture. Enchanted Evening: #983. 1960 - 1963. Original vintage outfit includes: Pink gown with train accented with a rose, white stole, white long gloves, drop faux pearl earrings, 3 strand faux pearl necklace, clear shoes. All clothing pieces in excellent shape with no holes. Drop earrings are good and intact. Necklace has come apart and needs restringing. Shoes (one marked Japan) have good glitter on heels and across toe band. Please see 9th picture.Open Road: #985. 1961 – 1962. Original vintage outfit includes: Jacket, sweater, pants, hat, red sunglasses, red strap cork wedge shoes, and map. Jacket has all brown buttons but missing the top toggle and is lightly soiled. Tan sweater is in great condition with all three snaps and no holes. Pants are great with working zipper and no holes. Straw hat has no holes in red band that ties under her chin but some fraying around the straw brim is noted. Red sunglasses are great with working hinges and red strap cork wedge shoes are great with no issues. Map has been torn and only piece remains. Please see 10th picture. American Airline Flight Stewardess: #984. 1961 - 1964. Original vintage outfit includes: White blouse, navy skirt and jacket, black over the shoulder handbag, American Airlines travel bag and navy hat. White blouse has 3 tiny buttons and a working snap. Jacket has 4 tiny buttons, a working snap and a wings insignia on left front. Skirt is straight with working snap. Hat with an AA insignia on the front is in great condition with 2 prongs, so it stays in her hair. Black handbag and travel bag are excellent with working zipper on travel bag. Clothes have some slight soiled areas from normal play. Please see 11th picture.Barbie Fashion Pak. - Satin Mix & Match Group. 1963. Original vintage outfit includes: Satin Bolero (jacket) with Pillbox Hat, Satin One Shoulder Blouse with Faux Diamond Stud Earrings, (Earrings are RARE), Satin Long Full Skirt with pair glitter shoes. Shoes are in great shape and show little wear. White faux pearl bracelet and earrings are in outstanding shape. Necklace has come apart and needs restringing. Please see 12th pictureBarbie Boudoir Pak. #1834. 1964-65. - Towel, washcloth, soap, sponge, shower cap, talc box, powder puff, pink princess phone, water bottle, razor, vanity mirror. Razor is unused and still in cellophane wrapper. Powder puff looks unused with matching ribbon on top. Shower cap has pink and blue tassel on top. Cardboard gold colored talc box has been bent but writing on top is vivid and shows minimal wear. Set is missing comb and brush. Blue terry towel is plain, and the word "Her's" is not present. Soap and sponge have yellowed with age. Please see 12th picture.
