My aunt owned a paint store in 1959 when I was 10 years old. She also sold toys in a special section upstairs and my sister and I looked forward every year to visiting her shop and picking out things we wanted to put on our Christmas list. My birthday is in November, and the year I turned 10, she gave me one of the first Mattel Barbies made in Japan. I thought Barbie wasn’t very pretty, but I loved her clothes. She is long gone, but her outfits are alive and in excellent condition, as I became obsessed with her clothes. I would not let anyone touch my Barbie, and on every Birthday and Christmas until I became a teen, all I asked for were Barbie outfits. She had more clothes than I ever dreamed of having. Now I am 73 years old and have 2 beautiful granddaughters and 7 great nieces who love Barbie too. I would love to leave this cherished collection to my granddaughters or a great nieces, but none of them would ever value these items as I did. They would end up lost, tossed aside or in the trash. So, as much as it breaks my heart to sell these items, I feel selling them can benefit my education in the future. A few pieces were missing, like an earring or glove, but replaced by me. Up for auction is an original 1959 #2 Ponytail Barbie with blonde hair. She's a bit rough as far as condition, but the poor thing's an antique now, so I can't blame her. :) Here are some specifics: Doll only, I do not have her original swimsuit or accessories (no earrings, sunglasses, etc.)--The original rubber band in her hair disintegrated and someone put a newer one in--the remnants of the original are in her hair. I did not attempt to remove it for fear of causing more damage.--There are NO holes in the bottom of her feet, and the bottom of her right foot says "Japan"--She has the Barbie logo and a patent date of 1958 on her bottom--Her plastic is discoloring with age, so her legs are lighter than her torso, and her legs have greenish areas--She appears to have some sort of dirt all over that has left marks/stains on her body. I tried to remove with water, but did not try anything else for risk of damage. There are dirt streaks on her arms and torso, and there is a dirt spot on her back right shoulder. There are also some light streaks below that (see picture) where it looks like some of the dirt came off.--Overall, her paint is in good condition. There is some wear on the edges of her eyelashes and fingernails. Her toenail polish appears to be in good condition.--Her irises have no color--Joints are solid and a bit stiff--she's definitely not loose!--She has not been chewed on (eww!) or mangled in any way like that--She also smells like crayons--Comes from a smoke-free homeI am happy to answer any questions you may have at all. Aside from playing Barbies as a kid, I don't know too much about them, so if I left out any important information, please just ask! This poor girl needs a good home with a Barbie collector who will love her and cherish her.Also, I will be going out of town for work for a week starting August 17th and will not return until the 24th of August. If payment is received before the 17th I will be able to ship before I go out of town.
