Vintage 1958 “Mattel Modern” MCM Wooden Doll Furniture for 9” Dolls Like Barbie
SOLD $315.00 Sold: Mar 10, 2025 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
PER MY RESEARCH, THIS OFFERING IS A COMPLETE SET, BUT I CANNOT GUARANTEE IT. IT IS VERY RARE TO HAVE THIS NUMBER OF PIECES TOGETHER. I am limited as to how many pictures I am able to share in the listing, but I can provide a link to my online research if desired. This doll furniture set was produced in 1958 by Mattel to be used with 9” dolls. Barbie was introduced in 1959 by Mattel and so she is sometimes pictured with this furniture set. The set was named “Mattel Modern” and almost all of the pieces are marked “Mattel underneath as pictured. A few of the pieces do not appear marked, but I think the ink maker’s mark might have faded. This set includes 13 pieces - a bed with mattress and bedspread (11”x8”); a dresser with working drawers and mirror (7”x2 75”x8 5 to top of mirror); a buffet cabinet with sliding screen, working drawers and shelf (7”x2 75”x4 5”); an open wardrobe with two bottom drawers (one of the drawers was sticking when I was taking pictures, but I didn’t want to force it) and a metal cross pole for hanging clothes (11”T, 4”x9”); a kitchen table (7 5”x5 5”x3 75”) with two chairs (2 5”x3”x4 5”) w/ fabric cushions (the back cushion needs reglued on one chair as pictured); a couch and matching side chair with cushions (side chair 4”Wx3.75”T; couch 10 25”Lx3 75”T); a lamp that is supposed to light via battery but is untested. The lamp shade is a bit bent as shown. I am including a second matching lamp that is not pictured. The shade is in rough condition, but could be repaired if someone has the talent.); and a coffee table (7”x2 5”x1 75”) with two matching end tables (2 5”x2 5”x2 5”) Each piece is structurally sound. They do have nicks in the finish and/or finish cracking here and there. I tried to capture this in the pictures. The kitchen table top has some tiny white spotting which appears to be paint. The fabric on the bed’s backboard and the buffet door shows wear. Per my research, the cushions on these pieces weren’t always flat as pictured, but deflated over the years. I did not try to smooth them out, but it should be easy to do. Overall, this cool furniture set will display great, especially for a vintage Barbie collector or anyone that admires MCM style. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
