Beautiful Vintage #1 Ponytail Barbie Doll 1959 One Owner OG Stand & Collection!
RARE FIND! Number One Blonde Ponytail Barbie with the Original Early Fashions, Pronged TM Mattel #1 Stand Accessories and Case Little nine year old Alice received the first issue Barbie teenage fashion doll for Christmas in 1959. Mattel’s Barbie had just made her debut at the International Toy show in New York. This is a rare opportunity to own a very special number one Barbie with the original “one owner” childhood collection. It includes many early fashions, complete with the jewelry and accessories This Ponytail Barbie is stunning with her cute upturned nose and signature ponytail. She has dramatic lightning shaped eyebrows and handpainted makeup ; blue side glancing eyes, blue eyeliner, smoky eye shadow, coral red lips, red fingernails and toenails. She’s truly stunning and in remarkable condition for being 64 years old. She is 99% original and retains most of her original factory characteristics This number one blonde ponytail has the extended hairline, which is different from the number threes and later dolls. She is very unusual and rare in that she has two distinctly different hairlines from left to right. Her right side is curved and differs from the straighter hairline on the left. She is wearing her original hairstyle set with the top knot and hard curl at the bottom. The ponytail has been retied with matching colored thread as the band was shot. Her hair is uncut and she has no missing plugs. She has a flocked scalp, silky floss hair in baby chick yellow, full poodle bangs with well defined curls and a cute spit curl on her forehead. Her make up is excellent. as is the the nail and toenail polish. She has all of the correct markings on her bottom; Mattel Barbie TM, 1958 in Roman numerals, pat pending and the number 65. She is marked Japan on the bottom of one foot. Her limbs are nice and tight, but she is able to hold any pose. Her neck moves freely, and there are no issues. She has beautiful and even creamy, pale pinkish ivory body color which is amazing as I e usually sees a in e sort of fading . She has beautiful straight legs with the desired daylight shown only between the thigh and knee , and knee and ankle…A sign of classical beauty with models. She has holes in each of her feet with the original copper tubes present. And she even has her original Mattel TM two prong stand which is very valuable! She has had very minor work done.. a professional restoration to her right pinky and a little touch up to her eyelash ridges. There was also one teeny pinpoint freckle on her left leg just below the knee that has been touched up to match the body color . If you look closely at the photos, you will see how gorgeous this doll is. I have not seen one in original condition that is this outstanding. Barbie has a boyfriend , Ken, who will be listed in a separate listing. Blonde Barbie comes with her original iconic black and white swimsuit, white cat, eyeglasses, black, OT mules with holes. Thankfully her feet do not have any of the staining that is typical with these Barbies. She also has her original gold bangle, hoop earrings! One hole per ear and no green ear! How perfect is this girl?! She is FABULOUS! It was so fun to find Barbie in her original little nest with all the fun boxes and precious accessories that Alice had lovingly kept and preserved. You can tell that this Barbie was truly loved and treasured. Alice did not let other children touch or play with her doll :-)*** This collection would not be complete without a photo of little Alice in December of 1959 around the time that she received this Barbie for Christmas. The photo is included here and a printed copy along with the original provenance of this doll will come with the collection upon request Barbie will come with her original white Ponytail case , dated 1961. A couple minor tears at the seams. And her original TM #1 Ponytail fashion booklet along with the second issue with Barbie and Ken in silhouette in the cover . VTG WORLD OF BARBIE FASHIONS STORE DISPLAY, STACEY, PJ, MOD BARBIE, 4 DOLLS 1970
eBay Up for auction is a vintage Barbie store display, which is dated 1970. This "World of Barbie Fashion Boutique" set is an estate find that is incredibly rare! It includes four dolls: two mod Barbie dolls, a Stacey doll, and a PJ doll. Stacey is wearing a pink negligee set with poodle slippers but the other three dolls are wearing mod fashions. From left to right, the first doll is wearing a yellow pant suit set with yellow high heels, the second is wearing a multi-colored abstract patterned mini dress with green high heels, and the PJ doll is wearing an outfit that epitomizes the 1960s and early 70s: an orange mini dress with plaid skirt and matching orange coat and plaid scarf, with yellow boots. All of the dolls are in new condition, with all original outfits and wrist tags. Each silver tag is marked with the name of the doll on one side and "Made in Japan" on the other. They are charmingly posed in their original store display which is in excellent condition. The blonde Stacey doll has shifted position over the years so that she is partially blocking one of the Barbie dolls, but she seems to be stable at this point. The store display does show some wear, including dents in the plastic, which can be popped out a bit but tend to want to return to their dented state. There are no holes in the plastic though. There is a small area with adhesive residue (probably from a sticker that was removed at some point) on the front and slight slits in the plastic on the top and bottom of the display. There is mild wear to the cardboard in places. I took lots of pictures so please view all of the pictures carefully as they are part of the description. There are no unpleasant odors.This is a must have for the serious Barbie collector!Thank you for looking at my auction. My aunt owned a paint store in 1959 when I was 10 years old. She also sold toys in a special section upstairs and my sister and I looked forward every year to visiting her shop and picking out things we wanted to put on our Christmas list. My birthday is in November, and the year I turned 10, she gave me one of the first Mattel Barbies made in Japan. I thought Barbie wasn’t very pretty, but I loved her clothes. She is long gone, but her outfits are alive and in excellent condition, as I became obsessed with her clothes. I would not let anyone touch my Barbie, and on every Birthday and Christmas until I became a teen, all I asked for were Barbie outfits. She had more clothes than I ever dreamed of having. Now I am 73 years old and have 2 beautiful granddaughters and 7 great nieces who love Barbie too. I would love to leave this cherished collection to my granddaughters or a great nieces, but none of them would ever value these items as I did. They would end up lost, tossed aside or in the trash. So, as much as it breaks my heart to sell these items, I feel selling them can benefit my education in the future. A few pieces were missing, like an earring or glove, but replaced by me. Every outfit in this 900 series collection is clean, mint, & complete and owned by the original owner ME The collection has been stored meticulously in acid free tissue and nothing has any odor of any kind.The following items are all Original. As always, please consider my pictures they are part of my description. I do try to take lots of pictures. Highly close up, macro settings. RARE Barbie Brunette Side Part doll. She comes on a Barbie Midge straight leg body, rather than the traditional bendable leg body. She has LOTS of hair, I did wash gently, and because of the body and the hair I did do a lot of research on this one, according to the books Jean Burger is credited for designing the Side Part Barbie. They required so much more time to root this style. And a few dolls with more densely rooted hair that curls and turns all around have been found in JAPAN and USA. When I "styled" her hair it drove me crazy that it did just that, it curls up if you want, or turns under. Now to her condition, the pictures show that her eyelids need, could use a touch up. I do NOT touch up any of my dolls, afraid. I know it can be done. Her lips are nice pouty pink. I do see a tiny tiny white fleck inside her lip. I actually added some super macro pictures, and they should show possibly the one on the inside is missing paint, and then there is a tiny one on her lower lip. Both look t me like they could have happened while making the doll. Just like someone was in a hurry? Not like someone did that while playing with doll. Her body and face match in skin tone, light, and evenly flesh toned. Hard to see but I noticed some superficial minor scratches on lower leg. Her body and limbs are nice and tight. She has NO GREEN, NO NECK SPLITS, and I do see earring holes, in one picture maybe 2 or 3? She never had nail polish on her toes and only some remains on hands. I did add some green HONG KONG mules to her outfit and noticed that only those very early shoes fit her. Her one foot, in my opinion, is just a tiny bit maybe one millimeter shorter than the other. ???!!! I suspect she might just be one of those '" TRANSITIONAL " Barbies, since Mattel never threw any parts away, you decide, ask away. Please. Her outfit is the original color magic blouse and skirt, in nice but a bit faded, condition, all snaps work fine. I am including the pants, but they are also a bit faded, and are discolored in some area. Fit so well. Shoes fit her perfectly. Almost forgot, she had a yellow and green headband originally, it was in very old shape, I cleaned it and salvaged what I could, tied together, that's what you see in pictures. EASTER PARADE #971~”R” (Coat), WITH NEAR MINT 1960 GORGEOUS BARBIE IN ORIGINAL BOX #850 from the era (1959)This is one of the three most desirable outfits from the 900 series. (The others are: Gay Parisienne #964 and Roman Holiday #968). This barbie is the second wave of dolls that were made after 1959, which they were marked 1959 barbie’s had the very heavy blue eyeliner and the eyes were looking to the right, but after a year or so they realized that the plastic in the face was changing the color to a very pale complexion, which made them designed the second wave of dolls, and here it comes this beautiful barbie that is marked “TM” at her buttocks. I sold the first one a few years back and her face was almost ghosty……The apple print polished cotton sheath dress (mint, never placed on a doll before), was combined with a smart black faille unlined Spring coat, with 3/4 length sleeves, (also mint). The back gathered into the yoke and the big patch pockets had self-bow accents. Other accessories were a headband hat that was a simple bow fashioned from silk organza (little fray at the bottom edges), a patent clutch bag (bead has lost luster), graduated “pearl” necklace, matching earrings (discolored with the years, 62 to be exact), short white tricot gloves (excellent, no yellow), and black open-toe pumps with the holes under; left one is marked Japan. I’m including the golden vintage stand, the 1959 booklet “TM” (the only one where this outfit appears, as well as the other two i mentioned above, extremely hard to find and very expensive), I’m also including a reference card with Barbie in this gorgeous outfit.Barbie is beautiful in her blonde ponytail with the curly short bangs, styled by the first designer that the Handlers hired in 1956, (Larry Germaine) after they realize that the Mattel’s staff expertise were not able to handle the art of hair style for Barbie doll. Later others came……. This doll has no flaws, as i show in the pictures, no chewing, no marks; all her limbs move great, nothing is lose, and the finger nails still have some soft nail polish. The bottom of the foot is marked Japan (picture #7). Her hair is not silky (as 63 years ago), but is all there. The box is original from 1959 (as you can read it on picture #13), and it shows some time wear). Picture #12, is the way she appears in the Barbie Fashion first volume from Sarah S. Eames. This items are all from my own collection that my mother started for me, so i know they have been away from the light, in a pet and smoke free environment and in a climate controlled temperature. GENUINE VINTAGE 1959 1960 TRANSITIONAL MATTEL #1 #3 BARBIE DOLL HOLES IN FEET
THIS EXTREMELY RARE VINTAGE DOLL IS ABSOLUTELY NOT IN MINT LIKE NEW CONDITION AND IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. FOR THE ADULT COLLECTOR. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MINT ITEM OR A PLAYTHING FOR A CHILD THIS IS NOT THE DOLL FOR YOU. THANKS!Here we have an extremely rare 1959 Mattel #1 Barbie body with a rare 1960 Mattel #3 blonde Barbie head on it. This combination of head and body, although extremely rare, surface more often than one would think in varying degrees of condition, so many collectors, myself included, are of the opinion that most of these dolls are factory transitional dolls, a situation in which Mattel was using up the leftover #1 bodies they had on hand and putting #3 heads on them. Mattel was, and still is, famous for being thrifty when it comes to using up leftover doll parts so factory transitional dolls were and are nothing unusual for them. This 1959 doll body does have the holes in the bottom of the feet with the metal tubes. I purchased this doll a couple of years ago and it breaks my heart to sell her but I've recently moved and money is very tight and I need to pay rent and bills and eat. This doll was in pretty rough shape when she came to me. She was filthy and heavily played with. Most of her original lip and eyelash ridge paint was missing/rubbed away and a child had drawn red ink marker lipstick on her. The ink had bled some into the surrounding vinyl creating a pink stained "halo" around the mouth. The child had also used what appeared to be colored pencil to give her eye makeup. I have restored this doll. First she got a good bath and shampoo and condition. I very, very carefully removed as much as I could of the child's offensive ink and pencil handiwork and used my artist's acrylic paints to conceal some staining and restore some color and beauty to the doll. I repainted her lips in a tomato red shade that resembles the lovely color that the original #1, #2 and #3 lips often oxidize and fade to. This color blends with a conceals what's left of the ink staining rather than making it more apparent by contrast, like a true blood red would. I touched up her black eyelash ridges and original brown eyeliner. Her fingernail and toenail polish was mostly gone so I gave her a new manicure and pedicure to match her lips. Thankfully, this doll's eyebrows are all original! Her hair had been cut some and is frizzy so I simply put it into a bun on the top of her head and used a bit of soft hold hairspray to keep it in place. I have used a "less is more" approach when working on this doll, trying to preserve as much originality as possible and not overdoing her. I also want my work to be reversible if a future collector with better skills than me wants to restore her themself. I did seal my paint with Modge Podge, but that can be removed with alcohol and a little patience. The doll's body has both faded and darkened as is common...with improper storage in hot climates the #1, #2 and #3 bodies and limbs will fade to ivory as usual but then can yellow a bit after that. I have taken photos with and without the flash to show this, and some of the photos with the flash make the yellowing look worse than it is. She looks better under normal or natural light to the naked eye. The doll body does show scuffs and play wear here and there as is to be expected but overall is very sturdy with firm joints, no splits and no chews or missing fingers and toes. The metal tubes in the feet are protruding a bit as is normal from the vinyl shrinking and changing shape over the past 66 years. There is also some staining on both feet from more than one pair of shoes being left on too long over the years. The first three Barbie heads are made of a vinyl formula that does not develop green ear like subsequent ones do so you don't have to worry about that. I do not detect any smoke damage or mildew or other foul odors. As mentioned before I cleaned her and she smells only of crayons as she should. This doll is far from perfect and some may not choose to believe she is a transitional, maybe they think a child switched heads, but my education and experience shows me that these transitional dolls DO exist so I'll choose to believe that she is one of them. You can clearly see that the head and body have aged together and have been together a very, very long time. It all just looks and feels "right". I also would view this doll as a rare and interesting piece of Barbie history, as a conversation piece, and not expect her to be a perfect beauty. While she is certainly attractive, she's been through a LOT...she's had a hard life and she's been restored...so she has some character to her. All in all this is a truly fabulous and extremely rare doll that I think you will be very proud to own. I have certainly enjoyed her...I love her so very much...but my financial situation is such that I absolutely must part with her. Thanks for looking!
