I am offering this rare and highly sought after #2 Vintage Brunette Ponytail Barbie from 1959 for sale. This is my doll which was given to me by my grandmother when I was 6 years old. She taught me to take very good care of her. I tried to do that. My husband has recently passed away and I am faced with financial challenges. I am hoping someone will give this gorgeous well persevered Barbie a home. Please look at all the pictures to show you how she has held up throughout the years. Her ponytail was reset. Her makeup is original. Her eye lashes have minor wear. There is minor fading on her lips. Her left arm has tooth marks from me when I was 6. RARE 1959 Original Vintage #1 Brunette Ponytail Barbie Doll with clothes. This was my wife's 10th birthday present in 1959, and she has kept it lovingly ever since. This Barbie is in very good condition. She has the holes in her feet to hold her up in the included original stand (which has a cosmetic chip on the back side). The copyright marking is visible on her right buttock. Her right foot has the word JAPAN on the bottom.She has white irises and sharply arched eyebrows. All of her features are original. Her ponytail has never been taken down. This is the exact model shown on the Wikipedia page about the introduction of Barbie at the American International Toy Fair on March 9, 1959, Barbie's official birthday. The Model 850 doll, with the original box, accessories, and documents from 1959 are all in good condition (see photos). The doll was “gently played with” for only a short period of time in 1959. Her hair was never disturbed and still has the original rubber band. No restoration work has been done. There are holes in the feet with metal cylinders in both legs which fit onto the original black two-pronged stand, stamped Barbie T.M. By Mattel. The doll is also marked Barbie T.M. on the right buttock, and Japan on the right foot bottom, thus verifying authenticity The box is marked Barbie T.M., Teen Age Fashion Model, 1959. RARE HTF VNTG 1959 1 850 TM BLONDE PONYTAIL BARBIE DOLL-COTTON CASUAL-#912
This auction is for a rare, hard to find 1959 #1 blonde ponytail Barbie doll. There were only 350,000 #1 Barbie dolls made in this issue. She has a beautiful face with the characteristic inverted V or lightening bolt eyebrows, side glancing eyes with white irises, blue eyeliner, curly bangs, and metal cylinders in her legs that end with the holes in her feet for her doll stand. Her doll stand was not found with her. Her eyebrows are intact as her ruby red lips. Her right eyebrow is faint at the outer edge, but it is there to make her eyebrows complete and original. Her gold tone hoop earrings are artist's custom reproductions of the original earrings, and look very appropriate. Her light tone, heavy body is pale, indicative of the #1 Barbies, and feels solid. She also comes with her original sunglasses with blue lens. The right arm of the sunglasses is looser than the left, but both stay on her head when placed. I see there are reproductions of the original doll stands that can be found on ebay to complete her look. I will leave that up to the new owner! She was found with many of the clothing outfits made as those first issue of Barbie outfits which I will be listing soon. Japan is marked on bottom of her foot closer to the heel on her right foot. She is an estate sale find! She comes from one prior owner and a pet free home. It says that I ship within 2 days, 99.9% of the time, I ship within 24 hours. This vintage 1960 Barbie doll was a super exciting find for me in the summer of 2001. My 17 year old daughter had been away to Italy for a year as a Rotary Foreign Exchange Student. We missed her immensely and I was searching for a welcome home gift that would mark the special occasion. Being that she grew up playing with Barbies, when I saw this doll at a moving sale I knew I had found THE GIFT. I was stunned at how pristine she was - quickly learning it was because she was deemed "too mature" at the time for a little girl to play with. Her mother had tucked Barbie, box and all, in a closet. Substituting instead a Ginny doll for her daughter to play with. (I bought the Ginny doll too).My daughter was thrilled to tears with the gift, but had grown-up during her year away. She valued the doll as an investment, so once again Barbie was carefully tucked away, this time in a temperature controlled locked safe. Fast forward 20+ years and my daughter has given the go-ahead to sell her super special Barbie. (Her son is excited by Legos.)Ready for her new Best Friend we offer this 1960 vintage #3 (transition #4) Barbie Doll.Original 1960 #3 Barbie with Blue Irises and Brown curved Eyebrows. This is one of the FEW Barbies made with the Brown Eyeliner AND she is from a later in the year issue of a new vinyl plastic formula that would NOT turn a sickly white. (Collectors refer to the tan-toned dolls to be #4.) However this doll has the brown eyeliner making her a RARER 1960 #3 TRANSITION BARBIE!! EXCELLENT COLORING all around on her swimsuit, hair, red accents, cheek blush, sunglasses and box: I believe due to the fact she has been stored in a closet for her first 40 years and a safe the past 23 years.Included with her is The Barbie COTTON CASUAL Dress #912. The original top Hair band is intact.Her Bang curls are still tight.Pearl Stud Earrings are intact. Her right side earring shows slight green from metal ear stud. Her left earring is clear & clean.There are no visible neck splits Included is her Barbie COTTON CASUAL Dress #912. It has a name and date inked on the inside: Beth 1-7-60. It was purchased with the doll but obviously stored separately thus showing some dust accumulation on the the top of the bodice.There are some faint dark blotches on her right calf. A few mold indents may be visible on the rest of her body as is normal for this type of molded plastic doll body. With the exception of the case and the clothes rack, this is a one owner collection, meaning these were purchased by the original owner as a child and kept in their possession this entire time. I know that some collectors will want to know that the original owner is still with us, happy and healthy - and this comes from them and not an estate sale. This is a large collection and I have A LOT of pictures to share. Not all of those pictures will fit on this listing. THIS LISTING contains the "main" pictures. Her hair is uncut with nice plugs and soft texture. I did give the doll a superficial cleaning (soap and water) and washed her hair. I left a curler in her hair as it dried so the curl will not last (I didn't want to risk using heat). Her hair color has a bit of lemony yellow to it that I assume comes from age. Her bangs look great and are soft and springy. She does have pierced ears but no green spots. She does come with her original hoop earrings and striped swimsuit. Her torso is already pale but her face and limbs still have some of the flesh coloring. She has some paint rubs on her eyeline. No broken hands or feet - no chew damage. All of her nails still retain their original red polish. She has an indentation line on her right hip and a fairly flagrant mark on her lower back. All of her joints are nice and tight - no loosey arms or legs. There is a discoloration around her neck - no neck splits. As she is a #3, no holes in the feet although most her fashions come with the shoes with the holes on the bottom. EASTER PARADE #971 - Dress is nice, no issues. Coat shows some faint wrinkling to crepe like fabric but nothing flagrant or damging. Hat is showing some mild fraying on the ribbon tips/ Purse is discolored. Shoes are original and have the hole in the bottom - no cracks or splits. Peachy Fleecy #915- Coat has some discolored spots on the back, otherwise fine. Gloves are also a little discolored and stiff. The hat is a little smooshed but the feather is fine - the pearl has lost its veneer. Shoes are original, no cracks or splits. They also have a hole in the bottom. SWEET DREAMS #973 - Overall nice shape - clock is a bit rusted and I'm not entirely sure the "headband" is anything but a chenille stick but also fine. SWEATER GIRL #976 - Skirt shows a little fading. Both the sweater and the shell blouse shoe some holes in the knit. Sweater is missing (1) button and all of the pearls are missing their veneers. SUBURBAN SHOPPER #969 - Hat shows some discoloration. The ribbon is a little faded. Purse has a loose apple with some paint fade, otherwise fine. Dress is nice, no issue. BUSY GAL #981 - One of the side strings on the portfolio is in a knot. The jacket and the blue body blouse need a steam. Both sketches show some yellowing. Hat has a bit of a curl to it. Overall nice shape. Undergarments #919 - Most all of the elastic bits are relaxed. Bra and full slip see a bit faded. Winter Holiday 975 - The coat and the gloves are stiff. There is a small blue mark on the collar. Vinyl on the shoes is also stiff. Everything else is fine. Evening Splendor #961 - Dress is nice, no issues. Coat has some fading to the inner lining. Both the necklae and the hat are missing pearls. Purse and gloves show some discoloration. Shoes are original, no cracks or splits but they do have the hole in the bottom.Cotton Casual #912 - Ribbons are a bit smooshed, otherwise fine. Comes with (1) original shoe (it also has a hole). Commuter Set #916 - The outfit itself is fine, no issues. It comes with only one glove. Shoes are fine but they are of a later model, no hole. Hat seems a little wild but no damage. Hat box shows a tear and some tape repair, otherwise fine. Bracelt is smooshed. Big selection of same era clone outfits - some carry international tags. Pictures of these clone outfits are on the other/picture listing (above link). They too carry some flaws but overall, most are in good shape. There are perhaps some slight mending to closures or such but nothing is junk. I saw a few spots but nothing is ripped. I threw in the case, rack and some shoes (mostly Taiwan era) to round out the lot. Vtg #4 Brunette Ponytail Barbie Excellent w/ box & 4 mint Outfits original set
This is my mother's Barbie and she is in excellent condition because my mother preferred math over dolls. She has Been in a box almost since she was originally purchased. The outfits were opened but never played with, they are like-new and complete, including the original cardboard in the chef's hat and the original cotton in the cups with original straws. All five booklets are present in good condition with no rips or marks. The box has some wear, including a crease in the left side, but there are no splits. The Barbie has her original hairstyle with the rubber band, though the band has split and her pony is flat from laying on it for decades. Her body extremities are chalky and her body feels solid. Thanks to some expert advice received, I know she is a #4. She does have green ear and her original pearl earrings have been removed but they are included. She does not have any splits at her neck/head and all of her paint looks immaculate. The only piece missing is the base of the pedestal stand: it got lost somewhere over the past 60-some years. This doll is all original and she has been in storage since the 1960s. Here is a #3 ponytail Barbie from 1960! She comes with her original black open toe heels, with no splits or cracks in them. She also comes with the Barbie #912 Cotton Casual complete outfit with the open toe, white heels, that also have no splits. The cotton casual dress comes stain and hole free and the snaps on it work. An original Barbie pamphlet is also included. She does not come with the white stand pictured. This #3 Barbie has brown eyeliner. Barbie’s hair is extremely thinned on top and back.
